Getting married somewhere else.
Italy, Greece, Mexico, the Caribbean. We cover where it's actually legal, where it's just symbolic, what permits you need, and what it really costs.
Before you book anything abroad.
Different countries have very different rules for foreigners getting married there. Some – like the UK and Mexico – require weeks or months of residency before the ceremony. Others – like Italy and Greece – accept paperwork from your home country but require certified translations and apostilles.
The most common approach is to handle the legal marriage at home (a quick courthouse appointment), then hold a symbolic ceremony abroad. This avoids the paperwork entirely and lets you focus on the wedding itself.
